The USIU Africa Authorities have open the e-Learning Portal for the student to Login and perform Academic Functions.

The United States International University – Africa is equipped with a robust ICT infrastructure that is fully and effectively utilized campus-wide by students, faculty and staff. The University has established the Directorate of e-Learning to give direction for rapid technology adoption for teaching and learning both locally and remotely. The establishment of the e-Learning Directorate comes at a time when USIU-Africa is experiencing significant growth in terms of student numbers with a representation of more than seventy-three countries worldwide.

What is Respondus LockDown Browser?

The Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment for Blackboard quizzes and exams. If you enable the LockDown Browser, students must install the browser on their computer and then use it to log in to Blackboard and take the test. While using it, they are unable to copy, print, access other applications, visit other websites, or close the test until it is submitted.

The Student Version of LockDown Browser uses a standard Windows or Mac installer. This download link is unique for USIU-Africa. Please note students are required to install the application on their machines for them to take a Respondus Lockdown Browser and/or Monitor enabled exams.

Can a student use a regular browser instead of LockDown Browser?

If the instructor sets a test to require LockDown Browser, it cannot be accessed with a standard browser (Chrome, Mozilla etc). Should you attempt to use any other browser, you are notified that the test requires LockDown Browser.

Can I take a Respondus Browser enabled exam on my phone?

LockDown Browser uses a standard Windows or Mac installer. There are currently no apps available for Android and iPhone iOS. There is however an app for iPad, available in the App Store.

Is it possible to switch WiFi/Internet Data Networks when Respondus is already running during the online exams?

No, once the session starts, the browser doesn’t allow you to navigate to other areas on your device. Please ensure you have reliable connectivity and where possible, set your connections to automatically switch over to the best service provider in case of an outage

If I get disconnected from the internet during a test, do I have to restart or does it pick up from where I left off?

Once an exam starts, the clock keeps going. If you get disconnected for 5 minutes, the test will be minus that time when you eventually reconnect. All saved attempts will still be available for you to proceed.
