To set up an institution that would promote the advancement of education and development in the region. Through their effort, they were able to mobilize funds through generous contributions from communities and people of the Province through the spirit Harambee which led to the purchase of land and the establishment of a fully-fledged Technical Institute.

The Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) was established in 1979 in Nakuru County of the then Rift Valley Province. It is located ten Kilometres west of Nakuru town along Nakuru- Njoro Road. The Institute is the brainchild of the leaders and people of Rift Valley Province led by His Excellency Hon. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi CGH, the Second President of the Republic of Kenya who had the vision to set up an institution that would promote the advancement of education and development in the region. Through their effort, they were able to mobilize funds through generous contributions from communities and people of the Province through the spirit Harambee which led to the purchase of land and the establishment of a fully-fledged Technical Institute.
