Entry requirements for an Undergraduate Course

University of Embu School of Nursing Academic Programmes Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Upgrading Programme
    • Mean Grade C (Plain) at KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in Nursing or Division II at KCE/EACE with a Diploma in Nursing; OR,
    • KACE or equivalent one (1) Principal pass and two (2) Subsidiaries at KACE with a Diploma in Nursing. In addition, one must have at least two (2) years of working experience after attainment of the Diploma in Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Direct Entry
    • Mean Grade C+(Plus) at KCSE or equivalent with at least C+(Plus) in Chemistry, Biology, Physics/Mathematics and English/Kiswahili or Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Mathematics and English or Kiswahili.
  • Bachelor of Science in Community Health & Development

UNIVERSITY OF EMBU UOEM POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Entry requirements for Postgraduate Diploma Courses

  • Admission and conduct of postgraduate programs shall be conducted under the provisions of the general postgraduate regulations.
  • The following shall be eligible for admission into a postgraduate diploma program in the University:
  • Holders of a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Embu and other universities recognized by the UoEm Senate

Entry requirements for Masters Courses

  • Holders of a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Honours [Upper Division] or higher) from University of Embu or other universities recognized by the University of Embu Senate,
  • Holders of a Bachelor’s degree (Second Class Honours [Lower Division]) from the University of Embu who have at least two years of relevant experience,
  • Holders of a postgraduate diploma (credit level or higher) from the institution or other institutions recognized by the University of Embu Senate.

Entry requirements for PhD Courses

  • To be admitted to the University of Embu doctoral program, an applicant must hold a Masters degree from the University of Embu or an institution recognized by the University of Embu Senate. Beyond the possession of a degree, the applicant must have a cumulative mean of at least a B in his/her Masters studies and must demonstrate ability in academic research. Specific program minimum requirements will apply.
  • In exceptional cases, Senate, on the recommendation of any of the schools, may admit to the doctorate program, applicants who do hold a Master’s degree, provided that such candidates, on the basis of the research, professional and academic work they have done, can demonstrate that they are well qualified to undertake doctoral work.
