INTRODUCTION

The sole aim of the Bulawayo Polytechnic is to extensively disseminate information with regards to the needs of the whole students and staff structure to advocate the colleges’ mission statement as per curricula/departmental needs.

student centred and deliver information resources and services which enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

To develop collection and services in support of the present and future teaching and research needs of the Bulawayo Polytechnic community and the entire nation in an endeavour to spearhead development in the academic sphere of society.

LIBRARY SERVICES

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)
The Library can respond to the unique needs of its clients by providing various sources of data and information to support the research endeavours of clients in a compacted easy to use format.

Current Awareness Services (CAS)
The Library exposes its clients to a wide variety of current affairs through provision of current Newspapers, Reports, major events, among others.

User Education/Training
From time to time the Library orients its new clientèle with skills and knowledge of how to use the Library’s resources both print and electronic.

READER SERVICES

WHO MAY BORROW BOOKS?

Any current student, department or staff of Bulawayo Polytechnic with a valid college ID card.

HOW TO BORROW LIBRARY MATERIALS

Your college student or staff ID serves as your Library card. Bring items and valid college ID to the Circulation Desk.

LIBRARY COLLECTION.

The library collection covers all programs offered by the divisions and departments at the institution.

Open shelves collection

Books under this description are found on open shelves, and can be borrowed for 2 weeks by students and 1 month by staff.

Short loan collection

This comprises of restriction books, which are in heavy demand for a short period which is one week to all members.

Periodical collection

This includes journals, magazines and newspapers. All current issues are displayed on the periodical stand within the main reading library.

Reference collection

The Library has a good collection of Reference works such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries, Yearbooks, Directories, Catalogues, Atlases, Almanacs, Handbooks, among others. These reference works are read/ consulted within the Library only, They cannot be borrowed out.

Overdue fines

Ordinary loan books $1 /per day/per book
Short loan books $2 /per day/per book
Reserve loan books $2 /per day/per book
Use of cell phones within the Library US$5.

Fine payments are done at the library at the help desk during open hours between 10:00am and 4:00pm.

LOST BOOKS

Lost books are charged a non-refundable processing fee of US$10 plus replacement cost of the book/ replacement of book.

DAMAGED BOOKS

Users with damaged books are charged a fee equivalent to the binding fee and will not be allowed to borrow books.

Ask at the Reference Desk for lost materials.

Registration

This is where students, staff, register to join the Library.

Patrons are encouraged to advise Staff at the Help Desk when their address (that is, physical, postal, or email) or telephone number changes. Download REGISTRATION FORM here

GENERAL INQUIRIES

Staff members on duty at the circulation and Help Desk are always ready to respond to general questions. These are normallyinquiries from Patrons who want to know the location of various service points in the Library. The Staff member will, therefore, direct the users to other areas of the Library as necessary. Other queries may come from Patrons who are not well vexed orsure of the full range of services offered in the Library.

RESERVATIONS

Patrons can place a hold on any book of interest (from anywhere on the Internet) that is out on loan that they wish to use. Patron will then be notified when their books are ready for collection.

RECALLS

The Library can recall books that are in demand.

PHOTOCOPYING

Both printing and photocopying services are available in the Library.

Bulawayo polytechnic provide networked laser printers throughout the Library. Printing is based on a printing allowance.
Photocopier is available in a convenient location in the Library. The copier takes rands from served users.

Note: The Library do not make change. Please bring the appropriate change with you to the library.
