Bulawayo City

Bulawayo is the second largest city in Zimbabwe with a population of 1.5 million people. The city is beautiful with wide roads arranged in a perfectly planned grid of straight lines. Most streets are lined with trees.

Cultural sites

The city has many cultural sites including the national museum, the Bulawayo Art gallery, the railway museum, the Mzilikazi Art and craft centre, theatres.

Hotels, lodges, and camping facilities

Bulawayo has many good hotels and lodges. Some are located near the city centre (the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel), others are located adjacent to shopping centres (the Holiday Inn), while others are located on he outskirts of the city in beautiful leafy suburban surroundings (the Churchill Arms).
Bulawayo also boasts one of the best caravan and camping parks in Zimbabwe. This is located immediately adjacent to the main campus of the Bulawayo Polytechnic.

Tourist attractions

To the south of Bulawayo, less than an hour’s drive away, lies the Matopo’s National Park. As you tour the park, you will be surrounded by formations of granite rock in stunning arrangements. The area also has dramatic scenery. Less than 30 kilometres to the west of Bulawayo, lies the Kame Ruins. This is a UNESCO World heritage site. These ruins date from the iron age. The adjoining land is a nature reserve (Mazwi Nature Reserve) that provides facilities for picnics.

Also located less than 30 kilometres from Bulawayo along the Gwanda Road is the Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage and Research Centre, This provides a home for orphaned wild animals. It has lions, chetashs, black rhinos and many other animals.
