University of Zimbabwe Webmail – How to Access University of Zimbabwe Webmail
Webmail is an email system in which a user can access their emails via a browser on any computer or device that is connected to the Internet. See Also: University of Zimbabwe Intake.
How to get started
Step 1
Open your internet browser which can either be internet explorer, Firefox Mozilla,Google Chrome, Opera or Safari.
Step 2
Go to your addressbar and type in the following URL address:
https://staff-email.uz.ac.zw/webmail/
Then press enter. University of Zimbabwe Webmail
Step 3
You get a wring tht the connection is untrusted. This is because we are using a self signed certficate, which does not compromise your secuity so you need to accept the certifixate as outlined below depending on the browserv you are using:
(a) On Firefox, click on “I understand the risk”
(b) On Google Chrome, Click Proceed Anyway
(c) On Internet Explorer, click on “Continue to this website”
Step 4
On Firefox, Click on “I understand the Risks” and “Add Exception”
Step 5
A pop up window will appear requesting you to add security exceptions,click on “Confirm Security Exceptions”
Step 6
Enter your username(full email addresses e.g. johnsmith@education.uz.ac.zw) and password
How to navigate
The folder list(1)
The menu at the left hand side of the screen showsall the mail folders in your email account.
Youwill always find the first five of those:
Inbox – thisis where new emails arrive, by default;
Drafts – this iswhere your draft messages are stored, see later on composing emails;
Sent – messagessent by yourself are stored there;
Spam – for Spammessages and
Trash – formessages that you have deleted.
The Trashfolder will be emptied when you log out.
Some of the folders are indicated in bold and carry anumber in parentheses to the right of them. This indicates that thesefolders contain unread messages and the number tells you how many.
To open a folder, click on it once. Its message listwill appear shortly.
The message list (2)
This part of the screen is displaying the list of allmessages in the folder.
To view a message, you have to double-click on it.
You can also select a message by clicking on it onceand then perform some action on it using one of the buttons in theaction bar, e.g. Reply (the action bar is labelled 3 in the diagram).
You can select more than one message by holding theCtrl key and then clicking on a number of messages in succession.
To select a range of messages, select the firstmessage, hold the Shift key and then click on the last message youwant to select.
Finally, you can also drag-and-drop messages toanother folder. Just selected them and then drag them over to one ofthe folders in the folder list to the left by holding the mousebutton.
This also provides another way of deleting messages: just drag them into the Trash folder.
You will have noticed that some of the messages inour sample screen were indicated in bold and by a star symbol to theleft of them. These are message that have not yet been read by you.
A message carrying a little paper clip icon to itsright contains an attachment, such as a PDF document or a photo.
The action bar (3)
This part of the screen contains a number of iconsthat allow you to perform different actions, depending on what isbeing shown in the main part of the window (4).
In this example shown above, the 7 icons have thefollowing functions, from left to right:
Refresh Folder:checks for new messages in the current folder
Compose:creates a new email message
Reply: creates anew message in reply to the currently selected one; it will beaddressed to the sender of the selected message only.
Reply to all:similar to Reply, but the reply will not only be addressed to thesender of the selected message but also to all of its recipients.This makes sense if the message was sent to a group of people and youwant all of them to receive your answer.
Forward Message:forwards the currently selected message to another person
Delete: delete thecurrently selected message(s), that is, move them to Trash
Print: print thecurrently selected message
To the right of the action bar, you can see thesearch field. This field allows you to search all messages in thecurrent folder, much like a search engine on the web.
Just enter your search terms and press the Returnkey. If you are done with your search and want to go back to theoriginal message list, click on the little (X) symbol to the right ofthe search field.
The application bar (4)
The three icons at the top right of the screen giveyou access to different applications which are part of Webmail. Theseapplications includes the E-Mail component that we have just beenlooking at and in addition, there is also the Address Book and theSettings button. These give you access to a number of options thatallow you to customize the webmail application according to yourneeds.
Finally, the logout button terminates your Webmailsession.
You should always logout after using webmail to makesure that nobody else using the same computer will be able to accessyour emails.
How to change your password
Click on Settingsat the Top Right Corner of your Page
Then Click on Password word as shown below
Then type in current password then desired password on screen show below
Then click save.
How to Change your display name and email signature – University of Zimbabwe Webmail
First click settings
Then double click on identities
Then click on the email address identity
One can then type in the relevant display name one desires to insert andone can also type in the mail signature they desire.
Once you are done click on Save
