BACHELOR’S OF SCIENCE IN ELECTRICAL AND INFORMATION ENGINEERING
Overview of University of Nairobi Electrical Engineering
- In interpreting the course codes, after FEE the first integer denotes the year study. The second integer denotes as far as is possible, the subject area while the last integer denotes the semester in which the course is taught; 1 for the first and 2 for the second semester. Where the last integer is 0 it means that this is a course that is done throughout the two semesters such as the Engineering Project in the fifth year of study.
- Each semester course shall have a total of 45 contact hours including lecturers and tutorials and shall comprise a one-course unit.
- Laboratories shall have 60 hours per semester and shall comprise one course unit, except in the first year of study when they shall have 45 hours.
- There shall be a practical assignment term lasting for eight weeks at the end of the first year of study. There shall also be an industrial attachment of undergraduate students arrange for during the long vacations of the third and fourth years of study.
- The undergraduate students shall complete the following course units (including laboratories):

- It is assumed that the courses “Philosophy and “Communication Skills” shall be designed and taught by others.
- In order to cover this syllabus, service courses shall be provided by the following Department.
University of Nairobi Electrical Engineering Course Structure
F2. (a) Every curriculum for the degrees shall extend over not less than five academic years.
(b) A candidate enrolled for the degree shall satisfactory complete such curriculum in a period of not more than twice the minimum period for which he/she was registered for the degree.
F3. Each curriculum shall consist of an approved scheme of study.
F4. The choice of optional courses within an approved scheme of study shall, in all cases be subject to the approval of the relevant department.
F5. A candidate for the degree shall satisfactorily complete such coursework/practical assignments as may be required for each scheme of study. Satisfactory completion of such requirements shall be a condition of admission to the examinations at the end of that semester of study.
F6. Attendance of not less than two-thirds of the total lecture hours of all prescribed courses shall be a condition for admission to the examinations at the end of any semester of study.
F7. (a) The programme shall be divided into two parts: Part I and Part II. Part I shall comprise of first and second years of study while Part II shall comprise of third, fourth and fifth years of study.
(b) A candidate must pass all Part I courses offered before he/she is allowed to start Part II courses.
(c) A candidate shall not take more than four academic years to complete Part I courses and not more than six academic years to complete Part II courses.
(d) Each academic year shall be divided into two semesters while there may also be a third practical semester as may be provided for in a specific degree programme

F.1 Categories of Applicants:
Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Science Degree in the School of Engineering in the following categories.
a) KCSE Candidates
The basic admissions requirement shall be the minimum entry requirements set for entry into the Public Universities, which is at least an average grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). In addition, candidates are expected to have performed well in the following alternative cluster of subjects in KCSE Examinations, but at any rate, shall have obtained at least a grade of C+ in each of the cluster subjects.
